HDB renovation time runs on two clocks: general works Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm, and restricted works Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm only. Restricted works are also barred on public holidays and five named festival eves. A breach risks a fine of up to S$5,000.
Permitted working hours: general works versus restricted works
Two classes of work, two different windows. Almost every other page on this topic states one of them and calls it the rule. Hours are one of the five rules that bind every job.

General renovation works run Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Restricted renovation works run Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and no further.
- Neither class runs on a Sunday.
- Neither class runs on a public holiday.
- Restricted works additionally lose the Saturday.
This is why a painter can work on a Saturday while a tiler cannot, on the same flat, in the same week. It is not inconsistency. It is two permissions.
The five festival eves restricted works are banned on
On top of Saturdays, Sundays and every public holiday, restricted works are banned on five named festival eves.

The eves of New Year, Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya Puasa and Christmas Day. No competitor page in the crawled top 10 states this, and the AI answer served for the cluster omits it.
Which works count as restricted HDB renovation time
Restricted renovation works are the noisy, dusty, structural end of a job. They are the class that consumes HDB renovation time fastest, because they have the fewest days to run in.
Demolition, removing wall or floor finishes and cutting tiles are restricted
Ask which days your contractor has allocated to these works before the programme is agreed, because they cannot be moved to a Saturday later.
Which works count as general
General renovation works are the finishing trades. Plastering, painting and laying floor screed all sit here, and they get the wider of the two windows.
Plastering, painting and floor screed are general works
Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Never on a Sunday, and never on a public holiday, whichever trade is on site.
What time does renovation have to stop
6pm for general works and 5pm for restricted works, on the days each class is permitted at all. There is no evening extension and no negotiated exception.

A crew still working at 7pm is not working late. It is working outside the permitted hours, and the exposure lands on the flat owner as well as the renovation contractor.
Can I complain about renovation noise
Yes, and the route depends on what is actually wrong. Noise inside permitted hours is a different problem from works outside them.
What to do, in order
- Note the times Dates, start and stop times, and the class of work you heard.
- Check the notice The Notice of Renovation outside the flat names the approved works.
- Raise it with HDB Breaches of permitted hours are an HDB matter, not a police one.
General noise nuisance that is not an hours breach usually goes to the town council instead. Knowing which of the two you have saves a wasted complaint.
How long renovation takes, against how long it may take
Those are two different numbers. How long a renovation takes is a scheduling question. How long it may take is set by the HDB renovation permit and does not move.
- Three months for a newly completed block, from the grant date.
- One month for an existing block, from the same trigger.
- Within either, restricted works only get five days a week.
Read any quoted duration against the permitted days rather than the calendar days. A six week programme that assumes Saturday hacking is a seven week programme.

Why the hours rule changes what a job costs
Losing the Saturday for restricted works removes roughly a sixth of the available time from the noisiest phase of the job.
Contractors price that in. A tight programme means split crews, more supervision, or a trade waiting on site for another to finish.
- Compressed hacking phases carry a premium.
- Idle trades are billed whether or not they cut anything.
- A realistic schedule is usually the cheaper one.
Neighbour notice before works begin
Neighbours within a radius of two units must be given written notice at least five days before renovations begin.
Written notice at least five days before works begin
This is a requirement on the works, not a courtesy. It runs alongside the Notice of Renovation displayed outside the flat.
What the Notice of Renovation should show
The Notice of Renovation is displayed outside the flat for the duration of the works, and it is the document to look for before raising anything.

It should be visible without knocking on anybody’s door. No notice displayed is the first question to ask, ahead of any complaint about hours.
If your contractor breaches the hours
The Housing and Development (Renovation Control) Rules 2006 attach the penalty to the flat owner as well as the firm. That is the clause most homeowners miss.
- Put the instruction to stop in writing, dated.
- Keep the reply, or the absence of one.
- Confirm the firm is on the Directory of Renovation Contractors.
Using a firm outside that register is an exposure you carry personally, whatever the contract between you says about responsibility.
Planning a schedule that fits the hours
Build the programme in the order the trades actually have to run, then check each phase against the window its class is allowed.
The order the hours push you into
- Hacking first Restricted renovation works, five days a week, the tightest window there is.
- Wet works Waterproofing and tiling, still restricted while tiles are being cut.
- First fix Electrical and plumbing points before the walls close.
- Finishing Carpentry and painting, general works, and the Saturday is usable again.
The site measure sits between first fix and carpentry, and it cannot be brought forward. A schedule that puts carpentry before it was written to look short.
If you kept the Optional Component Scheme flooring, the wet works phase shortens and the whole programme relaxes. That decision was made long before key collection, and it still shows up here.
HDB renovation Saturday, Sunday and public holiday rules
Most searches for renovation hours Singapore are really about one specific day. The answer differs by class of work, which is why a single hdb renovation working hours figure is wrong.
- Hdb renovation Saturday: general works yes, restricted works no.
- Hdb renovation Sunday: neither class, whatever the deadline.
- Hdb renovation public holiday: neither class, and no exception is granted.
Renovation start time hdb permits is 9am for both classes. The renovation end time Singapore allows is 6pm for general and 5pm for restricted, and the hdb renovation timing published by the board is the only version that counts.
What time renovation is allowed and the renovation noise hours Singapore expects are the same question asked twice. The hdb noise rules renovation crews work under are the permitted hours themselves, and renovation hours HDB flat owners quote to a contractor should come from the source page rather than a forum.

Reading the hours against the rest of the project
The hours shape more than the noise. They shape the bto renovation cost you are quoted and the renovation timeline you are promised.
- A bto renovation package prices the programme, not just the materials.
- Kitchen renovation Singapore work is mostly general, so the Saturday returns.
- Toilet renovation Singapore work is mostly restricted, so it does not.
- An hdb renovation loan is drawn against a schedule, so the schedule has to be real.
Any renovation contractor Singapore homeowners appoint is working inside the same two windows. Carpentry Singapore firms included, whoever coordinates them.
How every figure on this page is sourced and dated
Every rule above links to the Housing & Development Board page it came from, with the date it was read. Nothing here is written from memory.
Where a published answer conflicts with the HDB source graphic, the graphic wins and the page says so. The same method is applied across every guide on this site, including the HDB renovation guidelines and the renovation timeline.
What we do not claim
We publish no licence number, no accreditation and no rating, because none has been issued to us. Nor is there a single photograph on this site of work we carried out.
The illustrations are generated and captioned as generated. Apply the same scepticism to any firm whose site is full of project photos with no dates on them.
- No completed project is shown, because none is ours to show.
- No renovation loan is arranged or brokered here.
- BTO Renovation SG works across Singapore and publishes no reviews.
What happens after you send the form
Tell us which BTO project, which flat type and when you collect keys. We reply within one working day with a scope discussion and an indicative cost band.
- Which block, so the works window can be dated.
- Flat type, because it sets the scope before it sets the price.
- Whether hacking is in scope, because it sets the hours.
Bring the renovation quotation you already hold if you have one. An itemised quote tells us more in a minute than a description does in ten.
